Abstract
This webinar was an invited contribution to the Irish Learning Support Association (ILSA) Conference.
Supporting all learners in mathematics has been shown to be challenging for teachers. Team and co-teaching approaches have grown in popularity in recent times. These newer approaches are thought to better support children's learning of mathematics. This presentation argues that unless collaborating teachers work together to support mixed-ability groups, much of the potential of newer approaches will not be realised, This presentation explains how the universal design for learning framework might be used to guide teachers' inclusive planning for mathematics teaching. In particular, it elaborates on productive ways that teachers might incorporate the three components of the framework; engagement, representation, and action/expression, in their teaching.
